Yesterday, 29th September was a key date to reflect on the importance of reducing food waste and adopting more sustainable practices. At Hotel Yaramar, we are committed to this cause and would like to share some positive actions to combat this global issue. 

Why is it important? 

Every year, a large amount of food is lost or wasted at different stages of the supply chain, from production to consumption. This waste not only represents an economic loss but also has a significant impact on the environment. 

What can we do at home? 

  • Meal planning: Organise your shopping and plan your meals to avoid buying too much and wasting food. 
  • Proper storage: Learn to store food correctly to prolong its shelf life. 
  • Leftover utilisation: Be creative with leftovers and transform food scraps into new and delicious recipes. 
  • Donations: Donate non-perishable food to food banks and charitable organisations. 

What can businesses do? 

  • Inventory optimisation: Manage inventories efficiently to reduce excess stock and waste. 
  • Collaborations with organisations: Establish partnerships with food banks and platforms like TooGoodToGo to redistribute unsold food. 
  • Education and training: Train employees on sustainable practices and the importance of reducing food waste.
