Monument to the Catholic Monarchs
Many of you who have attended our weekly Spanish culture activity have shown some interest about the Catholic Monarchs, maybe because you are following the Spanish TV Series “Isabel” or because you have seen posters around town about the exhibition that Fuengirola has dedicated to these famous Spanish monarchs.
The Catholic Monarchs were very important in the history of Spain and in the history of our town as on the 7th of August 1485 Isabel I of Castile and Fernando II of Aragon conquered the Sohail Castle which was under the rule of Moors.
The exhibition above mentioned has been on display at the local museum “Museo Ciudad de Fuengirola” up until Sunday the 19th of January. It has been a real success as the number of visitors has been much higher than expected.
Fuengirola, apart from organising this exhibition has also wanted to dedicate them a square right in the centre of town, beside the old Town Hall. The square will be called Plaza de Los Reyes Católicos and will be inaugurated next Saturday the 25th of January. On its centre there will be a 3 metre tall bronze statue of the monarchs created by the talented local artist Rosario García who is also author of many other monuments in town.
If you are currently on holiday with us at Hotel Yaramar, your hotel in Fuengirola, and you are passionate about art and history we recommend you to visit Fuengirola city centre this Saturday afternoon to see this beautiful brand new monument.
